Music videos shot entirely on an iPhone 3G.

These two music videos for Akira Kosemura's upcoming album, Grasslands, were shot entirely on a non-video iPhone 3G, using the QuadCamera app. Amazing.

The 2009 Feltron Annual Report.

The 2009 Feltron Annual Report is now up for your viewing pleasure. As usual, he's assembled an amazing amount of data in a beautifully curated way. And this year, he asked people who knew him to report data.

Cyber Arts awards for digital communities.

The cyber arts event calls for entries in eight categories, and has received over 40,000 entries since 1987. Categories include computer animation, interactive art, digital music hybrid art, digital communities and more. Of particular interest to me is the award given for digital communities. I love the way they define it:

The "Digital Communities" category will honor important achievements by digital communities well as innovative artistic approaches towards web-based communities. This category focuses attention on the wide-ranging social and artistic impact of the Internet as well as on the latest developments in the fields of social software, ubiquitous computing, mobile communications and p2p production. Special attention goes to community-related “net.art”. "Digital Communities" spotlights bold and inspired innovations impacting human coexistence, bridging the geographical as well as gender-based digital divide and cultural conflicts, sustaining cultural diversity and the freedom of artistic expression or creating outstanding social software and enhancing accessibility of technological-social infrastructure.

Who is going to be the Michelangelo of our [digital] time?

Nollywood.

Nigerian cinema is Africa's largest movie industry in terms of the value of the movie industry and the number of movies produced per year. Although Nigerian films have been produced since the 1960s, the rise of affordable digital filming and editing technologies has stimulated the country's video film industry. The Nigerian video feature film industry is sometimes colloquially known as Nollywood, having been derived as a play on Hollywood in the same manner as Bollywood.

Archetypes.

I remember seeing this a while ago...and the characterizations made sense. However, the demographics continue to change, making these imperfect.
